Marla Berkowitz To Lead Services!
berkowitz.jpg (12572 bytes)     Berkowitz is an active Jewish Deaf activist in New York City. Having co-founded and served as president of Manhattan's Young Adult Jewish Deaf Group (MYAJD), Berkowitz most recently co-founded the Jewish Deaf Resource Center (JDRC) and currently consults national Hadassah and its president Marlene Post on reaching out to Jews who are Deaf both here and in Israel. Actively involved in interpreting, accessibility, women leadership, health care and Deaf Culture issues, she has led Seders, organized activities and is currently enrolled as a graduate student in the Davidson School of Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS) working towards her second Master of Arts degree.

Ellen Roth, Guest Service Leader
roth.jpg (11966 bytes)    Ellen Roth is the second generation of a Deaf American family. She was raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, a prominent Hassidic Jewish neighborhood in New York City before moving to Forest Hills in Queens. After attending the Lexington School for the Deaf in Manhattan, she was mainstreamed in a hearing school, spent two years at Gallaudet University and graduated from New York University with BFA in fine arts, photography and communication arts and a Masters in Deaf Rehabilitation. She is currently senior rehabilitation services advisor with the Office of Rehabilitation Services in the State of Illinois, also known as Statewide Coordinator for the Deaf.

  • Voice interpreter will be provided.
  • Please do not wear leather shoes or leather belts during Yom Kippur.
  • If you request Childcare services (children under 6 years old), please inform JDCC by September 1st. There is no charge for this service.
