Dear Sharon,
A correction needs to be made from the Nov/Dec issue on page 8 & 9. We are no longer members of Temple Beth Solomon of the Deaf.

Dear Shalom:
I would like to ask one question. Do you have video sign language how to learn Hebrew language and vocabulary for the deaf? Please let me know.

Gregoryahu - Gregoryahu@aol.com

Editor responses:
There are several videotapes regarding Jewish holidays in sign language. You may want to contact Cassia Margolis at asljhah@hotmail.com

Dear JDCC,
My 10 year old profoundly deaf daughter would like to communicate via Emails and computer with other deaf children to share ideas, feelings and experiences. Emily lives in Long Beach, CA, with her father, me. She is at a point where she is deciding whether or not she wants to be Jewish. Right now, she accepts being 1/2 Jewish. A Jewish Deaf Pen Pal sound like a good idea for now. Do they communicate via computer or snail mail? Thanks,

Fred - FASDR@aol.com

Hello!
I'm a member of Cong. Beth Shalom in Naperville, and have been in the very slow process of working with the board to educate them about their single Deaf member (that would be me). Our Cantor has studied at CBS in Skokie and will be signing a short family service on February 1, 2002 at 6:30 pm. We'll have a professional interpreter to interpret the English.

Are there any other Jewish Deaf people out here in the Western Suburbs? And if so, what are you looking for, if at all, in a Jewish community? Thanks in advance for any responses!

Hello,

My name is Dena Zelig. I am 21 years old and a resident of Northridge, CA. I was given your name and this email address from a close friend of mine in New York. I grew up since the age of 6 going to a summer camp in Simi Valley out of the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, called Camp Alonim. I'm not sure if you know of it, but this is an amazing place that has been a tradition in many people lives. It is a Jewish camp summer and winter camp with many programs throughout the year as well. I grew up as a camper there until the age of 16 and then continued to give back as a counselor and staff member. I plan on continuing my time there, but I am trying to expand the program a little. This is where I need your help!!!

I am a hearing woman, however the deaf community and education has been a passion of mine for the past 9 years. I have been studying American Sign Language since high school, and will graduate this year with a BA in Deaf Studies and Liberal Studies. I currently teach a deaf Kindergarten class with an emergency credential and plan to continue to tech and educate Deaf children. While education plays a big part in my life, Camp Alonim fills the rest. I am looking to expand and include a deaf program for the Summer Camp. I just need some help getting it started. I'm not quite sure where to advertise as far as getting the campers interest or what i will need. If you have any ideas on this please be in touch with me. I see a mainstream program involved with the cabins and programs throughout the summer, and then would love to start teaching sign language, and soon expanding to maybe a complete session of just Deaf campers. My email is Mnchkn98@aol.com or I can be reached at (818) 886-4779. Thanks you so much!!!!

DENA ZELIG
