JDCC will not be participating at Deaf Expo '98 which
will be at the Ontario Convention Center in November but we are sponsoring a Moonbounce
there again.
I am pleased to inform you that a generous donation has been made to
JDCC by actress Marlee Matlin through a project with Toys 'R Us which enabled her to name
JDCC as one of her favorite charities. Toys 'R Us has just published their 'Toy Guide for
Differently-Abled Kids!' catalog which featured Matlin with my son, Michael Soudakoff and
another girl, and this Guide is now available at your local Toys 'R Us store. Matlin is
also scheduled to appear on the Rosie O'Donnell show on December 4th.

Thanks to David Rosenbaum for leading Rosh Hashanah services and
group discussion on 'What JDCC Can Do For You?'. We were honored to have actor Bernard
Bragg participate. He made us laugh with his 'Shofar' singing while Alan Rich of New York
blew it (see the 'Jewish Deaf Tidbits' column for more details). Thanks to everyone who
participated and took turns in reading the prayers.
Our webmaster has been implementing our new enhancements to the JDCC
website in our ongoing efforts to publicize availability of JDCC News throughout the
country. One feature is an electronic news service where people with access to the
internet can sign up to be informed of the latest information in the Jewish Deaf
Community. If you haven't signed up, visit our website at http://www.jdcc.org and add your
name to the e-mailing list!
Along with the usual articles and columns in this issue, two
articles appear in the 'Interpreter's Corner' for your enjoyment. On behalf of the JDCC
Board, we wish you a very Happy Chanukah!
