Marlo Lovitch appeared in a TV program called, "ER" on November 2nd. She was brought to the emergency room after having a grand mal seizure at a shopping mall. Dr. Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes) is the first to realize that Marlo is deaf.
Joshua Soudakoff, Emily Schwartz, and Justin Rothenberg (hearing) are among the cast on "Grandma's House", a new children's TV program in sign language airing Saturday mornings starting on November 4th. Look for the Total Communication Network cable in your local area.
Jackie Roth of New York appeared in Bayer Aspirin's most recent TV commercial.
DEGREES
The Gallaudet University Board of Trustees voted to grant an
honorary degree to Alexander Fleischman, a grassroots leader in the deaf community for
more than 50 years. He is known as Mr. NCJD as he has been involved with NCJD since it was
founded in 1956.
Dr. Deborah Sonnenstrahl, Professor and former chair of the Department of Art has been named professor emeritus status. Sonnenstrahl, a 1959 graduate of Gallaudet, has taught Art History at Gallaudet since 1965. They will receive their awards during the University's 127th commencement exercises on May 10, 1996.
A BIG MITZVAH
Anita (Mankoff) and Taras Denis of Spokane, Washing ton have a
great reason to be very proud grandparents! Their hearing grandson, Jeremy Siwek did a
beautiful mitzvah when he donated $1000.00 of his Bar Mitzvah money to the Eastern
Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for its deaf infant and toddler
program. Anita and Taras used to live in New York. Jeremy sure has touched many people's
hearts!
