New Organization Name
Since the name, Creative Services Group has already been reserved by another group in the State of California, we had to come up with alternative names and it is now confirmed that the new name is JEWISH DEAF COMMUNITY CENTER" (JDCC). We have been very fortunate to have Attorney Marvin Prager who has generously contributed his time and efforts to help us draft the Articles of Incorporation and By Laws. Once we are done with this stage, we will submit the forms and will have to wait several months before we are an official non-profit organization.

Circumcision Lecture
Rabbi Yehuda Lebovics was scheduled to be the guest speaker but a BABY BOY was born and he had to go out of town to perform his Mohel duties. Instead, we welcomed Rabbi Nissim Davidi who did an excellent job in explaining the Jewish Laws and why it is necessary to circumcise. It was very educational.
There was 15 participants. Frandcine Stern was our interpreter. She did a great job. The admission fee covered the interpreter's expenses and some refreshments, and the Soudakoff's donated the rest.
We had some new faces: let's welcome Isaac Rotman, Pamela & Eddie Friedman, Ruth & Percy Morris.
If you are interested in learning more about the Jewish ritual of Circumcision, there is a book, "Bris Milaht" by Henry C. Romberg. You can find this book at a local Jewish bookstore.

Kosher & Non-Kosher Chinese Food
What is different from kosher and treif (nonkosher) Chinese food? There is no shrimp, lobster, scallops, squid, oyster, lard, ham or pork (wonton) dishes because these animals are not kosher. In the Bible, it states, these animals are either "swarming things of the water and all other living creatures that are in the waters (Lev.11 :10) or "things that swarm upon the earth, anything that crawls on its belly, or anything that walks on fours, or anything that has many legs." (Lev. 11 :42)
Duck, pigeon, and goose which are very popular Chinese dishes are kosher. These are kosher birds. The Bible does not stipulate identifying characteristics for birds, but the Mishnah states that Ha bird that seizes food in its claws is unclean; (white) one which has an extra talon, a craw and the skin of whose stomach (gizzard) can be peeled, is clean.. (Hulin 3:6)
Catfish and shark is not kosher because they do not have both fins and scales. According to the Bible, only fish which have both fins and scales are considered "clean" (Kosher).

A Big Thanks
Goes to Barbara Montan of TRIPOD for changing the original dates of showing movies on Saturdays only. I spoke to her about it when I saw the flyers being made up. They are now able to show it on both Saturday and Sundays at 11:00 A.M. to make it possible for those who observe the Sabbath to attend the movies on Sunday. They are also showing the movie, Philadelphia.
